Sharp Family Concert Monday Night!

December 18th, 2009

The Sharp Family singers will be performing traditional Christmas carols as their Musical Gift to our community on Monday night  (December 21).

Starting at 7 PM in the community room behind the library, the program will feature such instruments as the mountain lap dulcimer, guitar, and clarinet. Silent Night will be sung in both English and Spanish.

Please come and enjoy the music and the refreshments!

Santa Day will be December 5

Santa and Mrs. Claus like to visit with our children every year.  This year Santa Day will be on Saturday, December 5, between 11 and 1.  Please come and visit with Santa , enjoy holiday crafts, hear a special story, eat cookies, and shop at our special Santa Store to choose gifts for yourself or a friend.

The Importance and Pleasure of Fall Backyard Bird Feeding

Doc and Diane Gover will discuss the importance of having feeding stations and what types of seeds are attractive to specific birds. They will also discuss how to solve problem situations with raccoons and squirrels.

Annual Fall Book Sale

The Friends of the Linwood Community Library will offer books, videos, and magazines for sale on Saturday, August 22, from 3 to 7 PM. The sale will be held in the community room at the back of the library, in conjunction with the annual Lion’s Club Barbeque. Hardback books and videos are 50 cents, softcover books are 25 cents, and magazines are 10 cents. See you there!

StoneLion Puppets Coming July 15

The summer family programming events are drawing to a close. Our last Wednesday program will be July 15 at 1:00. We welcome all ages to see “Who’s in Rabbit’s House?” presented by the StoneLion Puppets.

Summer Reading Program for all ages begins May21

Get Creative @ Your Library

Every summer, libraries offer special programs and incentives to keep kids reading through the summer.  Children and adults may pick up reading logs and sign up to participate in the program  as soon as school is officially out for the summer (May 21).

This year the Linwood Library has a special line-up of events planned for Wednesday afternoons at 1PM. The first program will be our kick-off party on May 27. All ages are welcome to attend and enjoy a picnic lunch of hot dogs, chips, cookies, and drinks. We will get creative with bubbles and sidewalk chalk art! Please come!

This Friday, April 24, at 1 PM, our book discussion group will get together in the library reference room to discuss the works of Jan Karon. She wrote the wonderful series set in Mitford , North Carolina. The first title is At Home in Mitford. In this book we meet Father Timothy, his dog, Barnabas, and the other fine folk of Mitford. GRUFF stands for Gentle Reads Upon Fourth Fridays. We read interesting, amusing, or informative books that don’t contain graphic sexual encounters , violence, or extreme language. You are welcome to come , even if you haven’t had an opportunity to read the books.

Dewey Discussion Group

Our evening book discussion group will meet at the library on Monday, April 13, at 6 PM.  The book we’ll be talking about is Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat who Touched the World.  It was written by the librarian who discovered him as a kitten after a freezing night in the library book drop.  Almost makes you want to have a Linwood library cat!  See you Monday!
