Summer Reading Logs Due Friday

Over 170 people have enrolled in the program, “Catch the Reading Bug.” This Friday, July 25, is the day for everybody to turn in their lists of books read in June and July. One preschooler has already turned in a log with over 400 titles!
All persons completing their reading goals will receive a green summer reading tee-shirt after the puppet show next Wednesday at 1 P.M. See you there!

Book Sales

We had so many items that had either been donated to the library, or been removed from the collection, that we needed to have a Winter Clearance Sale! There were hundreds of books, magazines and videos for sale in our reference room. Suggested price was 50 cents for a hardback book or a video, 25 cents for a paperback, and 10 cents for a magazine. We had just added over 100 children’s items, some in excellent condition, to our sale items. There were exercise videos and some home school curriculum materials, as well. All monies received were donated to the Friends of the Linwood Community Library. This organization, in turn, supports our summer reading program every year. Many of you helped a child Catch the Reading Bug this summer by coming to our Saturday sale on February 2.
We had another sale on April 26, in conjunction with our Annual Plant Exchange. Over $100 was raised for the Friends of the Linwood Community Library! If you have books you would like to donate for the Friends’ sale on August 23, please call the library at 913-301-3686.
Donated magazines are offered on a continual basis in the library reference room. The cost per item is only 10 cents. This is a good place to look for recent issues, especially women’s magazines with good recipes!

Annual Budget Hearing August 11 at 7:30

The residents of our newly expanded district met at the library on October 30 and elected seven persons to serve as trustees for the library district. The new board held its first official meeting on Tuesday, November 27, at 7 P.M.
The present board members are: Marceline Turner, Lynn Shoemaker, Jancy Thomas-Doner, Bruce Nelson, Burt Morey, Kathleen Byrd and Sharon Coatney.
All regular board meetings are held in the library meeting room the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7 P.M. and are open to the public.
The annual budget hearing will be on Monday, August 11, 2008 at 7:30 P.M. at the library.

Book Discussion Group

The Book Discussion Group met at the library on Monday, July 21, at 6:00 P.M. The book chosen for this meeting was Twenty Wishes by Debbie Macomber.
The group welcomes new members. Come and sit in on our group, even if you haven’t read the book! We hope you decide to join us.
